VOLUNTEER WITH BTAF!
VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED! We'll be in touch shortly with those who have applied! Thank you!!
Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer at the 6th annual Boston Teen Author Festival! Please read on for more information about our different opportunities and if you think you'd be a good fit fill out the application at the bottom of the page. We look forward to hearing from you!
2016 was the first year that we introduced our volunteering opportunities due to a need for more hands on deck after our expansion into the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. We loved getting to include so many enthusiastic reads in our special day and look forward to bringing even more on this year to help the day run smoothly and get our fabulous authors and attendees where they need to go.
We have three roles that need to be filled:
1. Table Assistants: These volunteers will be responsible for making sure attendees receive their goody bags, handing out programs, and answering questions regarding scheduling and directions. They will also be responsible for distributing the Kickstarter rewards to the correct donors when they come to pick them up throughout the day. This is a half-day shift, during panel sessions A and B -OR- during sessions C and D. Someone from the team will be on deck during the intro panel and the signing.
2. Traffic Controllers: The expansion into a second venue has made getting around a little confusing at times. We need plenty of volunteers spread across the venues between panels to direct traffic, answer questions about panels, and make sure things are crystal clear to attendees. This is a full-day shift, but you are able to attend panels. We ask that you're in the hallways 5 minutes before the end of the panels and stay out there for 5 minutes into the start of the next, but otherwise you're free to attend the sessions you want!
3. Author Aids: We want to make sure our authors get from point A to B with as much ease as humanly possible, and that's where the author aids come in! This is a full-day commitment in which you stay with your group of authors for the entire event. This does mean that you wouldn't be able to attend most of the other panels, but you may make some cool author acquaintances! (The authors do get one down session so if you'd like to attend a panel during that time and meet back up with your authors later, that's fine as long as we arrange it ahead of time!) Responsibilities of the author aid include: getting the authors to and from panels/lunch/the signing, providing them with cold water bottles that we will have stashed around the venues, introducing them at the start of the sessions, and making sure they leave ten minutes for audience questions at the ends.
Every role is incredibly important to making the day go off without a hitch! If you think you'd be a good fit please let us know which of the three you're interested in below. Flexibility is very much appreciated! We'll do our best to get you your preferred job but unfortunately cannot guarantee everyone's first pick.
Perks: To thank you for volunteering your time we will provide you with free lunch and a volunteer t-shirt that you get to keep!
Requirements: We will be having an orientation at some point in September and attendance is mandatory in order to become a volunteer! We will solidify a date and time in August.
Thank you again for your interest! We look forward to receiving your application!
